The Greyhound Journal is an online and print magazine based in Hong Kong. They publish work with a historical angle. Their periodic publications contain stories and poems in both Mandarin and English.
When I came across their website some time ago, I immediately realized two things:
1. I want to be part of this
2. I want to send in my poem Loam
Yesterday I got the happy news: Loam got accepted for their online FEATURED column. The editors wrote me: “We admired the historical voice speaking through your piece and found its structure to be sophisticated and genuine.”
This poem is about the Hesbaye landscape, which I enjoy daily and write about a lot for my clients. It reflects upon the fact that this old landscape consists of layers. Visible layers, from the fertile soil to the fruit trees. But also layers of time, from the soil and fossils that took shape millions of years ago over ancient hollow roads to the apple tree our grandparents put their ladder against.
And so a piece of Haspengouw found its way to Hong Kong.
